TRAU 8073 - Neuroscience of Trauma Credit Hours: 3
This course delves into the neuroscience underlying trauma, providing a comprehensive understanding of how traumatic experiences affect the brain and body. Students will explore the neurobiological mechanisms involved in trauma responses including the roles of the limbic system, the autonomic nervous system, and brain structures like the amygdala, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex. The course will also cover the physiological processes as well as the long-term impact of trauma on neural pathways and overall mental health.
Prerequisite: Graduate degree in a mental health field. Corequisite: None
