Biology Program Outcomes

Students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of key biological principles at sub-cellular, cellular, and systems levels;
  2. Design, implement, and analyze an experiment to address a biological question;
  3. Identify and discuss role of faith in understanding the created order (the environment, organisms, and communities) and its stewardship;
  4. Communicate scientific findings through written and oral methods consistent with professional scientific standards;
  5. Demonstrate professional skills necessary for entering into graduate programs and/or scientific careers.

Requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Biology


The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Biology is designed for students who plan to pursue a career in biology or health sciences. All students wishing to eneter medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, biology graduate programs, or biomedical laboratory positions should obtain the BS degree. Additionally, students interested in specialized training programs such as biotechnology and medical technology should pursue the BS degree.

General Education: 33-39 Hours


Bachelor of Science 

The General Education math requirement for the BS in Biology is MATH 1223 College Algebra.

Required Biology Courses: 33 Hours


Required Supporting Disciplines: 32-34 Hours


Electives: 14-22 Hours


May be satisfied by courses required for a second major or a minor.

Total Hours: 120 Hours
