Students desiring a very focused experience in chemistry should consider this degree, while those desiring a more multidisciplinary degree should consider the B.A. in chemistry. Those who pursue the B.S. in chemistry will take all upper division chemistry courses offered, including 1 year of chemistry research. Students who pursue this degree will have career or education options including but not limited to: graduate school in chemistry, professional school (medical, pharmacy, dental, veterinary, or other), or industry research careers (pharmaceutical, agricultural, analytical or bioanalytical, organic, biochemistry or biochemical work, or forensic chemistry and forensics).

Chemistry Program Outcomes:

Students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate a strong foundation in the core disciplines of chemistry (organic, inorganic, analytical, and physical chemistry as well as biochemistry). 

  2. Possess the ability to conduct and interpret the results of laboratory experiments, utilizing appropriate lab techniques and instrumentation. 

  3. Apply their chemical knowledge and reasoning skills to solve qualitative and quantitative problems related to chemical systems.  

  4. Communicate scientific information, both orally and in writing.

  5. Utilize scientific literature databases and other web-based resources in order to locate, analyze, evaluate, interpret, and (when necessary) apply scientific data in the literature to practical settings.

General Education: 33-39 Hours


Bachelor of Science  

Electives: 21-27 Hours
