CHEM 3003 - Organic Chemistry I Credit Hours: 3
Serving as the first of a two-semester organic chemistry sequence, this course will cover nomenclature, functional groups, acid/base chemistry, depicting organic structures, 2D conformations and stereochemistry of molecules, energetic considerations of conformations and reactions, reaction mechanisms, justifying reaction outcomes on the basis of steric and electronic considerations, and multi-step synthetic analysis. Heavy emphasis will be placed on problem-solving and the development of critical thinking skills with an added emphasis on learning to apply general concepts to new examples.
Prerequisite: CHEM 2104 Corequisite: CHEM 3012
