ENGL 4513 - From Book To Screen

A juxtaposition of several major novels, short stories, and/or plays with the films that have been based on them. Using various forms of literary criticism and film criticism, the course will combine a close reading of printed literature with an in-depth scrutiny of literary films. Special attention will be devoted to how directors use mise en scene, movement, lighting, sound, and other tools to adapt literary works onto the screen.
