The Trauma Therapy Certificate Program at MidAmerica Nazarene University is designed to equip professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide trauma-informed care. This 16-credit program offers a comprehensive approach to understanding trauma, its impact on individuals and communities, and evidence-based interventions that promote healing and resilience. Through a blend of academic coursework, practical application, and spiritual reflection, students will be prepared to address trauma survivors’ emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs.
Students will explore key topics such as trauma theory, somatic experiencing, crisis intervention, and other trauma-informed modules alongside Christian principles of compassion, restoration, and grace. The program emphasizes holistic care, integrating physical, emotional, and spiritual elements to foster deep healing. Graduates will be equipped to apply their learning in diverse settings, including counseling, healthcare, church counseling center, education, and social services.

- Holistic Trauma-Capable Care
Graduates will analyze and integrate interdisciplinary knowledge of trauma’s impact on the physical, cognitive, emotional, and spiritual systems of the individual to design and implement holistic trauma-capable care plans that uphold the dignity, autonomy, and worth of every person.
- Ethical and Compassionate Leadership
Graduates will evaluate and apply ethical frameworks and lead compassion-driven initiatives that promote justice, equity, and restorative practices within trauma-informed systems of care, demonstrating advanced professionalism and advocacy in leadership roles.
- Practitioner Well-Being and Resilience
Graduates will critically assess and implement evidence-based self-regulation and resilience-building practices to sustain emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being, ensuring ongoing competence and ethical presence within trauma treatment settings.
- Scholarly and Professional Identity in Trauma Treatment
Graduates will synthesize theoretical grounded in trauma science, ethical leadership, and spiritual compassion, demonstrating the ability to contribute to the advancement of trauma-informed practice through scholarship, teaching, or leadership.
