Social Studies and History/Government Education Outcomes

Students who satisfactorily complete the major in Social Studies and History/Government Education will:

  1. demonstrate an understanding of historical themes and chronology;
  2. effectively analyze and use primary and secondary sources;
  3. conduct and present original historical research;
  4. pursue a career in History or a related field (education, law, politics, graduate school).

Senior Comprehensive Exam

All seniors must pass the prescribed comprehensive examination or capstone project prior to or during their final semester of study. All education majors will complete the content area and education area comprehensive requirements as required by each major and area.

Requirements for the Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies and History/Government Education


The History/Government and Social Studies Education program follows the comprehensive- major pattern. It embraces a broad base of social studies and prepares the student to teach in the school setting. This major requires completion of the professional education courses included in the secondary education section of the Teacher Education program.
