NURS 6163 - Healthcare Safety & Quality Improvement Science Credit Hours: 3
Develops leadership strategies and competencies that are imperative to quality outcomes within healthcare organizations and systems. With a focus on measurement and accountability, students use a systems approach to explore data, structures, processes, and outcomes that impact healthcare safety and quality and ultimately improve the patient experience. Accreditation, regulatory requirements, quality databases, and national benchmarking tools are explored. Students are equipped to practice and lead in organizations that advance high reliability principles, patient safety, inter-professional teamwork, and continuous learning. Through engaging in conceptual and application-based assignments, students focus on clinical and service quality planning and improvement initiatives; models, tools, and innovations for process improvement; and the importance and use of metrics in daily operations.
